Shooting: Gun Cleaning Mishap Brings Battery Charge; Felony Arrest – HOT SPRINGS

All suspects are presumed innocent until determined guilty in court.

Hot Springs Police were dispatched to a residence at the intersection of Carpenter Dam Road at Grand Point Drive on March 9, 2021, around 6PM, for the call of a shooting that had just taken place.

Officers arrived quickly, met with the suspect, made the scene safe and ordered medics in.

It was quickly determined that the shooter, Hayden Allen Dukes, 20, of Carpenter Dam Road in Hot Springs, was cleaning a gun when the shot was fired.  The bullet struck a bystander in the head.  The victim’s medical condition at the hospital was listed as “unstable and critical”.

The suspect told police that the 2 were field stripping/cleaning their guns when he pulled the trigger on his Glock .40 caliber pistol.  He was unaware that a bullet was in the gun at the time and the gun fired.

LifeNet dispatched 2 Ambulance Crews to the scene.  The victim was transported by ambulance to the hospital.

Mr. Dukes was arrested and transported to the Garland County Detention Center for processing.  He is charged with Felony Battery with bond set at $25,000.
