Deputy Shoots Parolee During Arrest
On Tuesday November 27, 2018 at approximately 0018 hours the Garland County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a possible stolen vehicle located at a car wash in the 3900 block of N. Hwy 7. Upon arrival deputies located a white Mitsubishi Galant matching the description of the vehicle they were looking for. The vehicle was occupied and sitting in a car wash bay. Two deputies maneuvered their vehicles in attempt to block in the suspect vehicle with their emergency lights activated. The suspect vehicle accelerated in reverse and rammed a patrol unit, then the vehicle began to proceed forward towards a deputy who fired shots at the oncoming vehicle.
The suspect, identified as, 22 year old Dillon Ellis of Hot Springs was injured during the incident and was transported by LifeNet to a local area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The deputy whose vehicle was initially struck was also transported to a local area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
This is an ongoing investigation and the deputy involved will be placed on standard administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The suspect is an active parolee on absconder status and will be charged with Possession of Firearm by Certain Persons Class Y Felony, Theft by Receiving Class D Felony, and further charges are pending. He will be held at the Garland County Detention Center once he is released from the hospital.
