Arkansas State Police Corporal Reed investigated a fatal motorcycle crash on Highway 70 West at the Country Walk Terrace Intersection last Friday around 4PM.
The Arkansas State Police Preliminary Fatal Crash Report says that Hunter Sutherland, 18, of Hot Springs, was Westbound on a 1997 Honda 750 Motorcycle when a 2011 GMC Yukon pulled from a stop sign and attempted to make a left turn directly into his path. The motorcycle attempted to dodge the GMC by going into the turn lane, but was not able to avoid the head-on collision.
The Garland County Sheriff’s Patrol assisted as needed.
70 West Fire & Rescue Troops arrived quickly. They blocked traffic, assisted with medical care, set up the landing zone for the medevac flight and otherwise assisted as necessary.
LifeNet dispatched at least 2 Ambulance Crews, the EMS Supervisor and the LifeNet Air Crew to the scene. Mr. Sutherland was transported by ambulance to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased by Dr. Kenneth Williams.
The report indicates that weather conditions were clear and road conditions were dry at the time of the crash.
Traffic flow was interrupted for approximately 1.25 hours.
