Alleged: Man Finds Wallet..Goes Straight to The Liquor Store..$60 Credit Card Fraud; Felony Arrest – HOT SPRINGS

All suspects are presumed innocent until determined guilty in court.

Hot Springs Police Detective Cox reports that officers with his department were dispatched to the area of the Central Avenue/Mockingbird Street Intersection last August for the complaint of a stolen wallet & contents.

As the complaint was being taken, the victim’s bank notified him that his bank debit card was just used at a local liquor store to the tune of $61.52

Det. Cox went to that liquor store and reviewed the surveillance footage during that time frame.  The suspect using the stolen card was identified as Stephen Clifford Spell, 60, of Buena Vista road in Hot Springs.

Stephen Clifford Spell, 60, of Buena Vista road in Hot Springs – Allegedly found a credit card and wasted no time using it at the nearest liquor store.

Det. Cox obtained arrest warrants and entered them into the police computer.

On October 17, 2021, around 9PM, Off. S. Lewis made contact with Mr. Spell at Walmart on Central Avenue.  During the course of the meeting, Mr. Spell’s pertinents were checked through the police computer.  The check revealed that he was wanted for the August credit card episode that Det. cox was working.

Mr. Spell was arrested and transported to the Garland County Detention Center for processing.  He is charged with Felony Theft of Property and Fraudulent Use Of A Credit Card with bond set at $3,500.
