All suspects are presumed innocent until determined guilty in court.
Hot Springs Police Detective Jessup reports that he was assigned to investigate a string of employee thefts that took place at a retail sporting goods store that was reported on December, 27, 2019.
Evidence in the case suggests that Employee Brandon Fitts, 39, of Gabor Street in Hot Springs, was on duty when customers came to the register, purchased items, paid for them and left the store. The problem is that a great percentage of the amount of the sale would be voided and the customer was allowed to depart the store with the merchandise. For example, one of these voided sales listed in the arrest report was scanned at $136.94. The customer paid 99¢ on that sale and departed with the items “purchased”. 13 of these voids are listed in the arrest report. They took place between 11/19/19 – 12/23/19 and involved the same customer for all of these transactions except one.
The manager of the store provided receipts and video that document what was going on.
HSPD Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Mr. Fitts and entered it into the police computer.
Garland County Sheriff’s K-9 Deptuy Strickland had occasion to make contact with Mr. Fitts on October 26, 2020 around 7PM in the 2600 Block of Highway 70 West. He checked Mr. Fitts’ pertinents through the police computer and found the arrest warrant. Mr. Fitts was arrested and transported to the Garland County Detention Center for processing.
He is charged with Theft Of Property and bond was set at $2,500.
