Hot Springs Police Officers were dispatched to Spring Street at 2140 hrs on 4/30/19 regarding a female firing a gun. Cpl. Rostan arrived and allegedly located Na’diya Mejyon Cooper, 18, of Maryland Street in Hot Springs, yelling at people in one of the apartments, with a pink HiPoint rifle slung over her shoulder.
Cpl. Rostan handcuffed and detained Ms. Cooper and verified that the gun was empty. He then made contact with the residents in the apartment. One of the residents reportedly told him that she and Ms. Cooper have had previous altercations, Ms. Cooper had allegedly threatened her on Snapchat before, and showed Cpl. Rostan a message Ms. Cooper had allegedly sent that evening stating “I will shoot you in real life. So pull up so I can beat that ass again.”
The victim said that she saw Ms. Cooper arrive and begin walking around. She allegedly stepped outside and noticed Ms. Cooper had a gun. According to the police report Ms. Cooper was by the basketball courts when she turned around, pointed the gun at the complainant, her sister and an 11 year old relative of theirs, and fired it in their direction.
Another witness at the scene gave his statement to the officers. He allegedly stated that he got Ms. Cooper to hand him the gun after she fired it near the basketball court, and that he got rid of the bullets. Officers were allegedly unable to locate any bullets in the area.
When asked why she had the gun, Ms. Cooper allegedly replied that she brought it to “pistol whip” the victim. The gun was placed into evidence.
Ms. Cooper was arrested and transported to Garland County Detention Center for processing. She is charged with Felony Aggravated Assault with a bond amount totaling $2500.
