All suspects are presumed innocent until determined guilty in court.
Hot Springs Police Detective Scott reports the following:
On 08/10/19 at approximately 0204 hours, Officers responded to the 1000 block of Twin Points Road, in reference to a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, Officers made contact with the victim and occupant of the residence at a neighbor’s house.
The victim stated that a female that she knows as “Darlene” rang her doorbell around 0100 hours and stated she needed to use the victim’s phone as she was in a car accident up the road.
The victim let Darlene use her phone but later discovered Darlene was not calling anyone. When the victim confronted Darlene about the fake phone calls, Darlene pulled out an unknown weapon and stated she had a knife and forced the victim back to her bedroom.
At this time the victim’s son came into the residence from work and attempted to locate his mother. He found the victim’s bedroom to be locked and forced his way into the bedroom to check on his mother. The son then saw the female that he knows as “Darlene” on top of the victim with an unknown object pressed to the victim’s throat. When the son attempted to intervene, Darlene stated that she would kill his mother and there were three guys outside the residence with guns pointed at them. Darlene ordered the son into the bathroom and told him to lock the door. Meanwhile, Darlene forced the victim back to the living room and placed a cell phone charging cable around the victim’s neck and attempted to strangle her with it. The son then called out to his mother and Darlene let go of the cord for her to answer him. The victim had several red marks around her neck when officers arrived on scene and stated that she wasn’t able to breathe while the cord was around her neck.
Both the victim and her son stated that they have known Darlene for approximately one year. Darlene had previously lived with the victim’s daughter for approximately three weeks. The victim and her son positively identified Darlene Ann Cornell (Kostyk) as the actor in this incident.
A warrant of arrest was obtained for Ms. Kostyk and entered into the police computer.
On 08/20/2019 OFC Smith and Detective Scott came in contact with Ms. Kostyk at the Country Inn and served her with this warrant. She was arrested and transported to the Garland County Detention Center. Ms. Kostyk is charged with Felony Aggravated Residential Burglary with no bond.
