All suspects are presumed innocent until determined guilty in court.
Hot Springs Police K-9 Officer Smith & Bear attempted to stop a black Ford Crown Victoria yesterday afternoon in the area of Leonard Street near Higdon Ferry Road. The vehicle allegedly sped off when the blue lights came on.
It was a short chase that ended on Audubon Street at Higdon Ferry Road. The driver allegedly stopped the car in great haste and ran on foot between houses/apartment buildings towards Leonard Street and disappeared.
Off. Smith & Bear were hot on the heels of the suspect when witnesses advised that the suspect ran under a house on the corner of Alexander at Leonard Street. Several HSPD Officers swarmed the area very quickly, surrounded the house and arrested the suspect as he was laying in the mud under the far end of the house. A large bag of suspected marijuana was allegedly confiscated during the arrest (the bag of marijuana is visible in one of the pics).
18 year old Christopher Deshawn Stewart of Hot Springs was taken into custody and charged with Fleeing, Possession Of A Controlled Substance With Intent To Deliver and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
An adult female was also arrested in the yard at the house. Her charges are unknown. Whatever the reason, it stemmed from her being disorderly at the scene of the arrest.
No injuries were reported.
