The suspect vehicle allegedly drove to Pleasant Street ignoring the police blue lights the officer turned on in an attempt to stop the vehicle.  Off. Smith activated his siren and the driver allegedly began to flee by speeding off and running stop signs in the area of Pleasant Street.  Off. Smith lost sight of the suspect vehicle in the area of Crescent Street.

Other HSPD Officers and Garland County Sheriff’s Civil Office Corporal Hawthorn found the vehicle and chased it down Malvern to Moore Street where the suspect vehicle struck a chain link fence.  After striking the fence, the driver allegedly jumped out and ran on foot towards East Maurice Street.  Off. Smith and his K-9 Partner Bear chased the suspect on foot.

Convicted Felon Parolee Cletus Davis, Jr. – allegedly ran from police while possessing marijuana and a pistol

The report says that the suspect jumped a fence at Helwig Street and attempted to enter a residence.  The suspect was not able to gain entry to the home and began to run again.  By this time, Off. Smith had caught up to him and had the taser gun out.  The suspect, Parolee Cletus Davis, Jr. 24 of Hot Springs, gave up and was handcuffed.

During the search that followed, officers allegedly located 4 grams of what is believed to be marijuana and a pistol inside the suspect vehicle.  A criminal history inquiry on Mr. Davis was run through the computer.  It was revealed that Mr. Davis is a convicted felon.  Convicted felons may not possess firearms in Arkansas.

Mr. Davis was transported to HSPD CID where Detectives assumed the case.  Mr. Davis is charged with Misdemeanor Fleeing, Misdemeanor Possession Of A Controlled Substance and Felony Possession Of Firearm By Certain Person.  His bond amount totals $4,500, but a Parole Hold has been placed.  So he’ll have to deal with that before bonding out.

No injuries were reported in connection to this event that I am aware of.
