Hot Springs Police were dispatched to a business around the 2500 Block of Central Ave back in October in reference to the theft of a purse from the trunk of the victim’s car. Missing were the purse, 2 cell phones, keys and a checkbook. The phones were valued at $1,600.
HSPD Detective Jessup was able to collect video surveillance footage of the theft in progress. The video shows the victim drive into the parking lot and park the Honda Civic. 1 minute later, the victim goes into her trunk, then closes it, but the latch did not catch…leaving the trunk unsecured.
Approximately an hour later, a female is seen on video walking past the unsecured trunk. The woman returns to the trunk, allegedly removes an item from the trunk, closes the trunk, gets into a white van and departs the property.
The woman that allegedly stole the item(s) from the trunk is identified as Rachael Rene Crawford, 23 of Hot Springs. She was arrested by HSPD Officer Rollins and HSPD Det. Jessup in the 1100 Block of Central Avenue on 11/18/2018 at 5:40AM on outstanding warrants for Breaking Or Entering and Theft Of Property. She is/was being held on a bond of $5,000.
