SUNDAY SEPT 24
Horror, Thriller & Sci-fi Films
Doors open at 12:45pm
12P ‘The After Hours Club’ Special screening. Coming this fall.
The After Hours Club – Episode: “That
Darkly Shining Abyss”, The episode looks at some
of the darkest aspects of death in America, starting
with a growing insensitivity to what death really
means because of media portrayal. We explore
erotic fixations with death imagery, new theories
about what may motivate some serial killers, and
investigate the changing landscape of serial killings
in general. An interview with Joshua Zeman, coproducer
of the A&E series “The Killing Season,” is
included. The majority of the episode is dedicated
to a gripping interview with Joseph Scott Morgan,
who not only gives us some of the ins and outs of
death investigation from the forensic aspect, but also
gives a compelling, deeply personal interview about
how his daily experiences with death in all its forms
changed him forever. After seeing this interview, the
viewer will never again look at death investigators as
mere cold, analytical characters as portrayed all too
frequently by Hollywood. (30 min, USA).
Here is the backstory from Keith –
““The After Hours Club” is an exploration of all aspects of death in America. We began this
journey knowing that much of what we would explore and expose is taboo, or at least
undesirable to know by most people. Death touches everyone at some point, even if it’s only
the point at which they leave this process, this condition, we call life. Even if they have never
experienced the death of someone else, they will experience their own deaths.
It is the one appointment we all must keep, willingly or no.
In “The After Hours Club” we explore the stories of people who know, and understand, that
death is ever with us.
Students who are pursuing mortuary science programs and simultaneously working in funeral
homes as embalmers and funeral home workers.
Death investigators, who have to process countless murders, accidents, and unexpected
deaths every day.
Those who work in hospice programs, with people who KNOW they are dying, and their
Clergy of non-dominant religions like Buddhism, Voodoo, and the Santa Muerte Cult.
Necromancers who see and talk with the dead, and artists who take inspiration from death
imagery to create new works..
Academics who have bold theories on what REALLY motivates some serial killers, and why it is
more common than most people think to be erotically aroused by images of people being
Those who have taken the ultimate step and embraced death by attempting suicide, and
Scientists who predict a bleak and cold end to the universe itself as we know it.
These are their stories. This is the wisdom they impart to us, knowing that they can only give
fractured pieces of a puzzle that must eventually be solved, but not necessarily in a way we
understand. A puzzle whose pieces include each and every one of us.
Even when all the pieces fit together, and the tableau is complete, is it truly the end?
Eyes closed, or eyes wide open. Your choice.
Either way, welcome to “The After Hours Club”.
Stop in to kick off Sunday morning at the Festival with this new web series premiering in the fall.
