On Sunday, December 8, 2019, at 0807 hrs deputies with the Garland County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 812 Ridgeway Street Apartment #4 in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the complainant, Christine Dunn, who stated her boyfriend, Marquise Lemont Steward 21 of Hot Springs, had shot her mother Kayatia Washington 38 of Hot Springs.
Dunn advised that Steward came to her apartment to drop their child off and during the visit, they engaged in a verbal argument. During the argument, Steward became physical and as soon as Dunn was able to get away, she ran from Steward toward the rear of the apartment. Dunn’s mother, Kayatia Washington, who also lived in the apartment, was then awakened just as Steward exited the front door. Soon after a gunshot was heard from outside the apartment and, Washington whom was in the proximity of the doorway, immediately felt pain in her upper right shoulder. Lifenet arrived on scene transported Ms. Washington to an area hospital where she is being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.
On December 8, 2019 at 0828hrs a be on the lookout was initiated for Marquise Steward. On December 9, 2019 at 1110hrs Steward turned himself into the Hot Springs Police Department. Marquise Steward is charged with Domestic Battery 3rd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor), Battery 1st Degree (Class B Felony), and Terroristic Act (Class B Felony).
He is being held at the Garland County Detention Center.
