Garland County 911 Dispatchers began receiving reports from the public reporting that an airplane went down in the area of Ward’s Crawfish Hole on Crystal Hill Road Wednesday.

Garland County Sheriff, Piney Fire Department and LifeNet assets initially responded to the area and located a downed airplane in the infield of a private horse racing track on Lemay Place which is across from Ward’s Crawfish Hole on Crystal Hill Road.

The witness I spoke with said that he heard the engine on the airplane sputtering badly before the plane dropped below the tree line and disappeared.  He got in his truck, went looking for the wreckage and located the plane, intact, at the horse track.

While a “plane crash” was initially reported, this may turn out to be more of an “emergency landing” type of situation.  No injuries were reported.  Any possible damage to the plane or other property is not known to me.

Officials from the Hot Springs Airport responded to the scene to assist with the investigation and Federal Aviation Administration dispatched investigators to Hot Springs to assume the case.

The cause of the emergency landing is not known by me.
