Person Being Detained Assaults Police Officers; Felony Arrest – HOT SPRINGS

Hot Springs Police Officer Steed and Corporal Franklin were dispatched to the 1700 block of West St. Louis last night around 7PM in reference to a disturbance call.

Once on scene, the officers made contact with Austin Michael Spencer, 23, of West St. Louis Street in Hot Springs.  Mr. Spencer allegedly became very agitated and was reportedly cussing and yelling at the officers.   The officers were trying to explain to him that he was being detained just long enough to run his name through the police computer when he allegedly began to fight and rammed Ofc. Steed into a brick wall and air conditioning unit, injuring her shoulder.

Austin Michael Spencer, 23, of West St. Louis Street in Hot Springs – allegedly spit in a cop’s face to the tune of a $22,000 bond.

Mr. Spencer was handcuffed and arrested.  Mr. Spencer then allegedly spit in an officer’s face.  Then, jumped up and somehow grabbed the same officer’s shirt and body camera, pulling both the assaulted officer and another officer that was assisting to the concrete driveway causing injury to both officers.  Other officers came over and assisted.  Mr. Spencer was gently settled into the back of a police car and transported to the Garland County Detention Center.

Both of the assault victims reported to the emergency room for evaluation/treatment.

Mr. Spencer is charged with Felony Battery On A Police Officer x2 and Resisting Arrest with a bond totaling $22,000.
