Sheriff Mike McCormick is pleased to announce that Deputy Amanda Casad has distinguished herself through meritorious service while performing her duties as a Housing Deputy for the Garland County Detention Center.
On July 5th 2018, while interacting with the inmates in her housing unit Deputy Casad noticed an inmate that appeared to be choking. She immediately called for medical assistance and began performing the Heimlich maneuver due to the inmate having an obstructed airway. She was successful in her attempts to restore the inmate’s breathing by removing the obstruction through application of this technique.

Deputy Casad’s decisive actions and ability to remain calm under pressure were instrumental in restoring the inmate’s breathing and no doubt preserved the life of the inmate. Sheriff McCormick stated, “Deputy Casad’s actions are to be commended, and I am extremely proud of her performance.”
