Hot Springs Fire Troops responded to the 800 Block of Malvern Avenue yesterday for the call of a structure fire.
Hot Springs Police arrived very quickly and advised that heavy smoke was coming from a building at that location and said that this fire was going to be fully involved at any minute.
HSFD Trucks began arriving and fighting the fire at “What’ll It Be Woodworking” at the Intersection of Malvern Avenue and East Maurice Street.
I made it to the scene approximately 40 minutes after the call went out. When I arrived, HSPD had just arrived with the traffic van to place barricades, Malvern Avenue was closed from Silver Street to about Lemons Street, there was so much smoke in the area I could not even see the woodworking shop or the fire trucks that were parked in front of it.
Black smoke began billowing after about 20 minutes of me watching the fire. A few minutes after that, flames were visible shooting from the entire roofline of the woodworking shop.
HSFD put out several hoses, the ladder truck’s water cannon boomed over the fire shooting water down and possibly the boom truck with another water canon. It was very difficult to see through all the smoke and too dangerous to get up closer than I was.
No reports of any injury that I am aware of in relation to the fire.
HSPD still had the traffic detours set up at 1am this morning. HSFD was still flooding the site with water at 1am this morning too.
The building appeared to be a total loss.
