All suspects are presumed innocent until determined guilty in court.
Garland County Sheriff’s Patrol Corporal Lane was on duty in the area of Piney Junction when he noticed a disturbance on the rear McDonald’s Parking Lot around 2AM this morning.
He approached the belligerents and made contact with a black male that was next to a vehicle. The deputy allegedly met immediate resistance from the suspect and grabbed the backpack the suspect was wearing. Cpl. Lane immediately notified the patrol, over the sheriff’s 2-way radio, that the suspect was armed with a gun.
The suspect quickly broke loose and ran north across the old Nation’s Small Engine location and disappeared. Both of the suspect’s red tennis shoes flew off as he fled. Cpl. Lane was able to seize the suspect’s pistol during the scuffle.
GCSO K-9 Sergeant Kellar and Aton arrived quickly and began a track for the suspect. Aton began his track of the suspect at the 2nd shoe that the suspect left behind as he fled. Aton pulled strong in the direction the suspect allegedly ran.
Aton pulled Sgt. Kellar from that shoe all the way to the door of a trailer house inside the trailer park behind the tire shop at this location. It was later learned that the suspect actually lives in the trailer that Aton tracked to.
Deputy Lane has the 16 year old suspect’s name/info and was making plans to obtain an arrest warrant for him.
The disturbance allegedly involved a minor female and somebody’s parent.
LifeNet transported 1 person from the scene for unknown reasons.
