The suspect in this case (Kayvon Ward) is the same suspect charged with Capital Murder in the March 10, 2020 murder of Hot Springs Police Officer Brent Scrimshire on Kenwood Street (CLICK HERE).  Mr. Ward was shot by police and arrested at the scene on Kenwood Street.  He was taken to the hospital that day.  He was soon released and booked into the Garland County Detention Center where he was served with this arrest warrant charging Felony Battery after being developed as the suspect in connection to the shooting on Garden Street in August 2019.

All suspects are presumed innocent until determined guilty in court.

Hot Springs Police Officer Standiford reports that HSPD Officers were dispatched to National Park Medical Center on August 18, 2019 to investigate the complaint of a shooting that had just taken place on Garden Street.

Other HSPD Officers responded to the Garden Street crime scene and spoke with a witness to the shooting.  The witness said that the victim came to the residence and walked back to the bedroom that Kayvon Moshawn Daking Ward, 22, of Garden Street in Hot Springs, was staying in.  Moments later, she heard a “pop”.  She looked back towards the bedroom, saw the victim on the floor and Mr. Ward standing over him holding a black handgun.  The victim got up, ran and Mr. Ward shut himself in his bedroom.

Officers talking with the victim at the hospital found that he suffered a non-life threatening single gunshot wound to his upper torso.  The victim told officers that he went to the residence on Garden Street to pick up his son.  While there, he walked to a back bedroom.  As soon as he got to the room, Mr. Ward opened the door and shot him for reasons unknown.  The victim says he ran out of the house and was taken to the hospital.

Kayvon Moshawn Daking Ward, 22, of Garden Street in Hot Springs – being held at the Garland County Detention Center as the suspect in a shooting on Garden Street last August and as the suspect in the Capital Murder Shooting Death of HSPD Officer Scrimshire on Kenwood Street earlier this month.

HSPD Detectives prepared an arrest warrant charging Mr. Ward with Felony Battery 1st Degree and entered it into the police computer.

On March 10, 2020, HSPD Officer Scrimshire conducted a traffic stop on Kenwood Street.  During the traffic stop, Mr. Ward allegedly shot and killed Off. Scrimshire.  During the attack, Mr. Ward was shot by police and transported to the hospital by LifeNet Ambulance.  Once medically cleared, Mr. Ward was transported to the Garland County Detention Center for processing on the Capital Murder Charge.  Shortly after arrival at the jail, he was served with this Felony Battery warrant in connection to the Garden Street Shooting.  He is charged with Felony Battery 1st Degree with a $25,000 bond, but is being held at GCDC without bond on the capital case.
