All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
Hot Springs Police Officer Shoemaker found himself at the scene of another hit & run crash in the area of Section Line Road last week.
The suspect vehicle was described as a white minivan that fled the scene before police arrived. Off. Shoemaker took that scant bit of information and followed a scratch mark that began at the scene and continued south.
Other officers stayed at the scene and worked the crash. Off. Shoemaker followed that scratch on the pavement, lost it and retraced his route a few times. Finally, about 20 minutes later, Off. Shoemaker got onto a set of marks that led him to Ard Point off of Burchwood Bay Road. There, in an empty lot, he located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle. The vehicle was in the process of having the front driver’s side wheel replaced and had body damage.
Off. Shoemaker called for reinforcements. 3 more HSPD Officers showed up and together, they located the driver of the minivan. I wasn’t privy to the conversation, but I know this suspect was issued at least 6 tickets which included No Insurance, Ficticious Vehicle Registration and Leaving The Scene Of An Accident. Officers gave the suspect his tickets and allowed him to walk away.
Ernie’s Wrecker Service took charge of and removed the suspect vehicle from where it was found.
