Hot Springs Police Officer Werst was dispatched to the Albert Pike/Bypass Valero Station last Monday Night in reference to a man in a white 2003 Chevrolet Express van that was parked at the front of the store. At least 1 witness reportedly saw him make an inappropriate gesture with a pistol.
Officer Werst arrived on time and found the suspect vehicle parked at the front of the store. He ordered Stephen Joel Campbell, Jr., 27, of Kreylon Drive in Garland County out of the van. Mr. Campbell exited the van and was handcuffed/detained. Officers allegedly discovered an unloaded Glock 9mm pistol behind the driver’s seat. The gun’s serial number was run through the police computer and came back as stolen out of Garland County. Mr. Campbell was arrested and read his Miranda Rights.
When asked where the gun came from, Mr. Campbell allegedly said that he found it in the parking lot at the Family Park about a week ago.
Mr. Campbell was transported to the Garland County Detention Center for processing. He is charged with Felony Theft By Receiving with a bond of $2,500.
