Hot Springs Police K-9 Officer Smith 7 Bear were on patrol in the area or Trivista earlier this week when they became aware of a wanted person that was in a blue Chevrolet Spark traveling in the immediate area.
The dynamic duo spotted the blue, transverse front-engine, front-wheel drive, 5 door, sub-compact Chevrolet product near Laser Street and attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle kept driving until the police siren was turned on. The vehicle finally stopped in the 100 Block of Laser Street.
As soon as the vehicle came to a stop, the wanted person, Dustyn Clay, 35 of Trivista Right Street in Hot Springs, alleged sprang from the vehicle with great haste….barefooted and shirtless. According to the report, Mr. Clay sprinted across Central Avenue and wound up behind Pure White Cleaners where he allegedly attempted to scale a wall with no success.
At this point, Back-up HSPD Officer Plummer was with the suspect behind the cleaners building. Mr. Clay allegedly refused to obey commands, put his hands in his pockets and walked towards the officer. Mr. Clay was shot with the taser gun and handcuffed. On and near Mr. Clay, officers located a butane lighter, a glass meth pipe and a small package of Suboxone film (.9 grams).
Back at the car during this time, Off. Smith had arrested the driver, Wendi Barfield, 43, of Trivista Right Street in Hot Springs. Inside the car, Off. Smith located a red purse containing 5 unused syringes and 1 used syringe. Approximately .1 gram of meth was discovered inside a folded up dollar bill on the inside of the center console.
Both suspects were transported to the Garland County Detention Center for processing. After arriving at the booking room, Mr. Clay allegedly said that everything found in the car was his.
Ms. Barfield is charged with Felony Possession Of A Controlled Substance, Felony Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia and Fleeing with a bond amount totaling $6,000.
Mr. Clay is charged with Felony Possession Of A Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor Possession Of A Controlled Substance, Felony Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Fleeing On Foot and Failure To Appear with a bond amount totaling – no bond.
