Hot Springs Police Officer Crump was dispatched to assist a Cash Savers Security Guard with a theft arrest last summer.
The security guard alleged that he observed Dennis Edward Johnson, 47, of Leonard Street in Hot Springs, take a $3.71 package of ground meat and conceal it in his clothing. The guard detained Mr. Johnson and sat him down on an electric scooter that the store provides for handicapped customers.
While waiting for police to arrive, the guard reports that he heard something metallic hit the ground near Mr. Johnson. When the guard investigated the sound, he allegedly discovered a loaded Bryco Arms Pistol near Johnson’s feet. When the video footage was reviewed, it allegedly showed that Mr. Johnson removed an object from the rear of his pants and drop it.
Mr. Johnson is a convicted felon and has been prohibited from possessing firearms since 6/2006.
Mr. Johnson was arrested, transported to the Garland County Detention Center and charged with Possession Of A Firearm By Certain Persons and Theft Of Property Under $500 with a bond amount totaling $6,000.
