Arkansas State Police Corporal Reed investigated a single vehicle car vs. tree crash that resulted in fatal injury yesterday morning on Highway 270 East of Akers Road.

Evidence at the scene showed that the driver of the westbound 2008 Hyundai Elantra lost control, the car began to yaw, it exited the right side of the pavement sideways and slammed into the tree at highway speed.  The driver door area made catastrophic contact with the tree.

The ASP Preliminary Fatal Crash Report notes that the weather was clear.  However, it also noted that the pavement was wet at the time of the collision.

Morning Star Fire & Rescue Troops arrived quickly and had to stabilize the wreckage before attempting to free the trapped patient.

Kristen N. Dierdorf, 38, of Hot Springs was killed in the crash.

LifeNet Dispatched at least 1 Ambulance Crew and the LifeNet Air Crew to the scene to assist.

Traffic flow was interrupted for approximately 1 hour.
