Arkansas State Police Corporal Garner investigated a single vehicle fatal crash yesterday on Highway 298 at the Dry Branch Curve.

Evidence at the scene showed that the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport was traveling East when it entered the curve, exited the right side of the pavement, rolled onto it’s side, slammed a tree with the roof of the vehicle and came to final rest on it’s passenger side facing south.

Jessieville Fire & Rescue Troops arrived quickly, took charge of traffic control and tried to assist the driver.

LifeNet dispatched an Ambulance crew to the scene, but they were not able to relieve the situation due to the severity of the injuries to the driver.

Garland County Coroner Stuart Smedley responded to the scene very quickly.  He conducted the death investigation for his office.  The driver, Rickey E. Smith, 66, of Story, was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Smedley.

Traffic flow was interrupted for approximately 1 hour.
