Piney Fire Troops were dispatched to fight a fully involved structure fire during a thunderstorm last Sunday around 3AM on Guinn Lane.

Piney Fire Chief Scott Miser

I spoke with Chief Miser at the scene.  He said that people were inside the house when the fire started.  1 severely injured man was transported to the hospital by LifeNet Ambulance and tragically, 1 lady was killed by the fire.  The Garland County Sheriff’s Department and the Garland County Coroner’s Office investigated the death.

It was raining and storming heavily when rescuers arrived on scene.  Witnesses at the scene said that the lightning situation was absolutely brutal and dangerous as firefighters and deputies worked to help the victims and extinguish the fire.  I asked Chief Miser at the scene whether lightning may have played a part in starting the fire.  He said that it was possible if not likely, but it was so early into the investigation, he was not able to make an official statement about the cause of the fire.
