Arkansas State Police Troopers Tankersley and Robbins investigated a 2 vehicle head-on fatal crash last night around 10PM on Highway 7 North at Walnut Valley Road.
Evidence at the scene suggested that the northbound car crossed the center line on wet pavement and struck the southbound truck head-on. The force of the impact forced the truck off the right side of the pavement and into the ditch at the tree line. The force of the collision spun the car 180° where it came to final rest in the northbound lane facing south.
The driver of the car, Cecil Hughes, 24, of Hot Springs, was killed as a result of the impact. Garland County Deputy Coroner Hamilton pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The Garland County Sheriff’s Department responded quickly and assisted with detouring traffic around the scene and otherwise assisted as needed.
Fountain Lake Fire & Rescue Troops arrived quickly. They blocked the highway, assisted with accessing and treating patients, set a fire watch, assisted with clean up duties and otherwise assisted as needed.
LifeNet dispatched 2 Ambulance Crews to the scene. They transported 2 injured people to the hospital via ambulance.
Ernie’s Wrecker Service took charge of and removed 1 of the vehicles from the scene.
Traffic flow was interrupted for approximately 2 hours.
