Arkansas State Police Corporal Riggs investigated a fatal head-on, injury crash yesterday morning on Foxpass Cutoff around 6AM.
Evidence at the scene showed that the northbound S-10 Blazer crossed the center line and struck the front of the southbound Chrysler convertible. Both vehicles came to final rest blocking the road at the area of impact.
The driver of the convertible, Steven Allen Reed, 48 of Hot Springs was killed in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene by Garland County Coroner Stuart Smedley.
The Garland County Sheriff’s Patrol assisted as necessary.
Fountain Lake Fire & Rescue Troops blocked the north end of the crash scene and immediately went to work assisting patients and setting the fire watch. They also had to break out the jaws of life tools to gain access to the convertible’s passenger compartment.
LifeNet dispatched 2 Ambulance Crews and the EMS Supervisor to the scene. 2 People were transported by ambulance to the hospital.
On the south end of the crash scene, a civilian, Michael Honey, took it upon himself to stop traffic at their last chance to turn around safely. Mr. Honey remained at his traffic directing post throughout the entire duration of this event. All the 911 Heroes working the crash saw him down there and kept asking each other who was helping out on the south end. They really appreciated his dedication to keeping the scene safe and helping all the driver’s that needed information about what was happening and assisting them to turn around safely.
Traffic flow was interrupted for at least an hour and a half.
