Fatal Crash With Log Truck On Hwy. 70W – PEARCY

Arkansas State Police Corporal Ray investigated a fatal crash involving a log truck on Highway 70 in Pearcy yesterday.

The Arkansas State Police Preliminary Fatal Crash Report says that the log truck applied heavy braking in an attempt to miss rear-ending a vehicle in front of it.  The log truck, driven by Chris Avington, 57 of Arkadelphia,  went left of center and struck the Chevrolet Colorado pick-up driven by Harvey Joe Bailey, 85 of Pearcy.

70 West Fire & Rescue Troops arrived quickly and assisted as needed.

LifeNet dispatched at least 1 Ambulance Crew and the Air Crew to the scene.  Mr. Bailey was flown by helicopter to a hospital where he died due to his injuries.  According to the ASP Preliminary Fatal Crash Report, Mr. Avington was injured in this crash, but it is unclear whether he was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Road Conditions were dry at the time of the crash.

Holcomb’s Transport & Recovery took charge of the log truck and removed it from the scene.

Traffic flow was interrupted for at least an hour.
