Garland County Sheriff’s 911 Dispatch took the call Monday around 6AM from a person that found the body of a man floating in Lake Hamilton near what appeared to be an abandoned boat ramp at the end of Kyler Terrace.
Sheriff’s Patrol Units arrived quickly, secured the scene and began investigating. Garland County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigators responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
The cause of death was not determined at the scene. The Garland County Coroner’s Office characterized the death as a drowning. The Coroner pronounced Jacob Nooner, of Hot Springs, deceased at the scene.
Deputies finished at the scene and departed, but went back after a question arose regarding the whereabouts of the victim’s car.
GCSO Marine Patrol went back to the scene to attempt to locate the vehicle possibly in the lake. The water was too shallow for the sheriff’s boat to access the location. Arkansas Game and Fish Officers arrived with a boat that is better suited for shallow water. They were able to locate evidence that a vehicle was probably submerged near where the body was found earlier.
Hot Springs Fire Department Scuba Divers were called to the scene to pinpoint the car and assist with the recovery of it. The car, a black Chevrolet Impala, was brought out of the lake by tow truck winch, loaded onto the flatbed wrecker and removed from the scene.
The body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab where the cause of death will be determined.
