Capital Murder Arrest..Gag Order Issued In The Betty Slaughter/Lowe Cemetery Case – GARLAND COUNTY

All suspects are presumed innocent until determined guilty in court.

Garland County Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Sergeant John Schroeder has confirmed that Kevin Kay Buerke, 26 of Highway 7 South in Hot Springs has been arrested for the murder of Betty Slaughter, 80 of Legend Circle in Garland County.  A gag order has been issued in the case.  Further official statements concerning this case are not anticipated until after the trial, if at all.

Betty Slaughter was reported as missing last Tuesday.  Her body was found near the backside of Lowe Cemetery off of Ragweed Valley Road in West Garland County Saturday Evening.  Evidence at the scene showed that someone had burned the body.

Kevin Kay Buerke, 26 of Highway 7 South in Hot Springs – charged with Capital Murder in the Betty Slaughter case

Suspect Buerke had been incarcerated for 7 days prior to the Capital Murder charge, but the Garland County Detention Center Booking Information that I have access to shows that he was booked into the GCDC yesterday.  Maybe he was arrested in a different county.  However, that info is not readily available to me.

Mr. Buerke is charged with Capital Murder, Felony Forgery and an Act 570 note is among his booking information.  CLICK HERE for more info on Arkansas Act 570.  Mr. Buerke’s bond amount for the Forgery charge is $3,500 and a zero bond is in place for the Capital Murder and Act 570 charges.
