Hot Springs Police Bicycle Officer First Class Spencer reports that he was downtown in the area of Mountain Street when he saw Jeanine M. Salzman, 57, of Prospect Avenue in Hot Springs, throwing white paint on the Lauray’s mural which occupies the exterior of their Mountain Street wall. The mural seems to depict a ‘diamond butterfly”. Lauray’s is a jewelry store downtown.
Ms. Salzman used her hands to put and spread white paint on the wall. The paint damaged the $2,500 mural. She also wiped her hands full of paint on a green sign post, transferring paint to that post. She went on to track white paint footprints onto the sidewalk as she walked away from the mural.
As soon as she saw that OFC Spencer was after her, she tried to dart across the highway with her paint bucket and freshly painted, white appendages. OFC Spencer was able to catch her. She tried to get loose and flee several times, but OFC Spencer is a former U.S. Marine and he put a stop to her alleged nonsense. During her futile struggle, she was yelling that the officer was raping her.
Ms. Salzman was arrested, transported to the Garland County Detention Center for processing. She is charged with Felony Criminal Mischief and Resisting Arrest. An outstanding arrest warrant for Failure To Appear was also served during her visit. She was initially being held without bond.
