All suspects are presumed innocent until determined guilty in court.
Hot Springs Police Officer Nunez reports that he was on patrol on East Grand Avenue on September 17th, 2020 at approximately 11:05pm when he saw a black Dodge Avenger driving with no headlights. Off. Nunez conducted a traffic stop on the Avenger at the intersection of Convention Boulevard and East Grand Avenue.
Off. Nunez made contact with the driver, Eric Wesley Loftis, 29, of Huckleberry Street in Hot Springs. A check of Mr. Loftis’ pertenints revealed that he was on Parole with a search waiver on file. Parolee Loftis was detained and placed in the back of the patrol car. The rear driver’s side passenger, Alfred Frank Kalkan, 51, of Huckleberry Street in Hot Springs exited the vehicle. A check of Mr. Kalkan’s pertenints revealed that he had a valid Failure To Appear warrant out of Hot Springs. He was arrested. A female passenger was also arrested for an active Failure To Appear warrant out of Hot Springs.
Off. Nunez conducted a search of the vehicle. A black bag was located in the middle part of the back seat. Inside the black bag was a white crystalline substance which tested positive for methamphetamine (approximately 16.5 grams). Marijuana was also located in the black bag (approximately 5 grams). A silver marijuana pipe was located in the front driver’s side floorboard. A meth pipe was also found in a pocket on the front passenger’s door.
Parolee Loftis and Mr. Kalkan were transported to the Garland County Detention Center for processing. They both are charged with Felony Possession of Methamphetamine Or Cocaine, Felony Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, and Misdemeanor Possession Of A Controlled Substance with bond initially set at $8,500.
There was no other mention of the female passenger.
