Alleged: Suspect Self-Incriminates On Aggravated Assault Charge; Felony Arrest – HOT SPRINGS

Hot Springs Police Officer Cox reports that he was dispatched to the 200 Block of Autumn Street in reference to an Aggravated Assault at approximately 7:21am on July 12th, 2020.

Officers arrived and made contact with two victims. One victim told officers that they were working on a vehicle in the 1000 Block of East Grand Avenue. The victim’s husband, Raymond Self, 32, of Vantage Street in Hot Springs, arrived at the location and an argument started over an incident that took place two nights prior. The two victims told officers that Mr. Self pulled a pistol from his left pant leg and pointed it at them and their vehicle. The two victims fled the scene in a second vehicle in fear for their lives.

Officers went to the location on East Grand Avenue and attempted to make contact with Mr. Self, but he was no longer on scene.

Approximately 15 minutes later, officers went back to the location on East Grand Avenue to gather information on the victim’s vehicle. Upon arrival, officers saw Mr. Self standing in the parking lot next to the victim’s vehicle. Mr. Self was placed into custody and officers told him that he was was being arrested for Aggravated Assault. Officers did not give Mr. Self any details about the victim’s statements at that time. Mr. Self told officers without being questioned that he did not have a gun on him. He said that he was carrying his wallet in his waistband and when it fell down his pants and he attempted to grab it, the two victims fled the scene.

Mr. Self was arrested and transported to the Garland County Detention Center for processing.

At the jail, again without being questioned, Mr. Self told officers that he walked to a gas station then back to the scene. He said “I was on a main road, where would I have even hid a gun with all of those cars driving by”. Officers still at that point had not told Mr. Self any details of the alleged crime that took place or that a gun was involved in any victim statements.

Mr. Self is charged with Felony Aggravated Assault On A Family Or Household Member with bond initially set at $2,500.

According to Mr. Self’s booking card, he is also charged with Violation Of A No Contact Order x2 with a new bond amount totaling $7,500.
