Hot Springs Police Officer Stone reports that he was assisting Officer Ugartechea with a traffic stop on East Grand Avenue Tuesday around 8PM when he heard a vehicle skidding at the Malvern Avenue intersection. He stepped out and ordered the driver to pull into the VP Racing Parking Lot. The vehicle pulled into the lot.
Off. Stone made contact with the driver, Joe Rashawn Lewis, 18, of Cones Road in Hot Springs. He asked what the problem was and Mr. Lewis answered that he was being chased by another vehicle. Off. Stone smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. He asked Mr. Lewis if he had anything illegal in the car. Mr. Lewis pointed to a firearm on the passenger floorboard. The loaded Ruger .380 pistol was checked through the police computer. The serial number return showed that the pistol had been stolen out of Hot Springs.
Mr. Lewis was arrested, Mirandized and searched. Officers found 10 oxycodone pills, 1 Alprazolam pill and a digital scale on his person. Officers also located the Ruger pistol and a rubber marijuana pipe with residue inside the car.
Mr. Lewis is charged with Felony Simultaneous Possession Of Drugs And Firearms, Felony Possession Of A Controlled Substance With Intent To Deliver x2, Felony Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Felony Theft By Receiving Firearm and Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia and was initially being held without bond.
