Alleged: No License Plate Leads To Felon With Loaded Pistol; Felony Arrest – HOT SPRINGS

All suspects are presumed innocent until determined guilty in court.

Hot Springs Police Officer Plummer reports that he was on patrol in the area of Higdon Ferry Road when he found a vehicle with no license plate driving around on public streets.  Off. Plummer turned on the blue lights and conducted a traffic stop in the Best Buy Parking Lot.

Off. Plummer approached and made contact with the driver.  The driver’s pertinents were checked through the police computer.  The check revealed that the driver was on parole with a search waiver on file.  The vehicle was searched.  Off. Plummer found a loaded (6 rounds) RG 14 .22 caliber revolver underneath the front passenger seat.

Convicted felon on probation Robert G. Helms, 47, of Little Ponderosa Trail in Hot Springs Village – allegedly riding around town with a loaded pistol.

The front seat passenger, Robert G. Helms, 47, of Little Ponderosa Trail in Hot Springs Village, claimed ownership of the gun.  Probationer Helms was convicted of a felony crime in Garland County in 6/2019.  Convicted felons are prohibited from possessing firearms in Arkansas.

Probationer Helms was arrested and transported to the Garland County Detention Center for processing.  He is charged with Felony Possession Of A Firearm By Certain Persons with a bond of $2,500.
