Kurt John Schatzl, 57 – charged with DWI

Witnesses at the scene said that off duty Hot Springs Police Officer Franklin was traveling down the road in his marked police SUV when he stopped to check the welfare of the driver of a stopped car on Timberlake Drive.  When the officer walked up to the driver’s window to make contact with the driver, the suspect vehicle allegedly went into reverse and smashed into the front of the police unit.  Officer Franklin detained the driver for suspected DWI and called the sheriff’s patrol to take over the case.

Kurt John Schatzl, 57, was arrested and transported to the Garland County Detention Center for further DWI Investigation.  Mr. Schatzel is charged with DWI.
