Hot Springs Police K-9 Officer Smith & Bear report that they were on patrol in the South Patterson Street area when they found a vehicle that failed to use a turn signal as it turned onto Albert Pike Road yesterday.
The K-9 Duo conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the parking lot of the Summer Street EZ Mart . Ofc. Smith made contact with the driver (and sole occupant of the vehicle), Michael Wayne Mitchell, 30, of Brookhill Ranch Trail in Garland County. Ofc. Smith says that Mr. Mitchell’s hands shook vigorously as he searched for insurance papers during their contact and he could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Ofc. Smith had Mr. Mitchell exit the vehicle. K-9 Bear began a narcotics sniff of the vehicle and immediately jumped into the driver seat. Bear’s fast response indicated that he found narcotics. A manual search of the vehicle was conducted.
Ofc. Smith located 2 rifles and a loaded and ready 9mm semi-automatic pistol within easy reach of the driver’s position, 4 individual baggies containing a total of 42.7 grams of meth and a glovebox containing numerous empty plastic baggies.
Mr. Mitchell was arrested and transported to the Garland County Detention Center for processing. He is charged with Felony Simultaneous Possession Of Drugs & Firearms, Felony Possession Of Meth With Intent To Deliver, Felony Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia and Felony Unauthorized Use Of Another Person’s Property To Facilitate A Crime with a bond amount totaling $ held on zero bond.
