The suspect in this episode is a 16 year old juvenile. Arkansas 911 News does not identify juvenile suspects.
Hot Springs Police Officer Sampson was dispatched to the 1200 Block of Central Avenue in reference to an armed robbery that had just occurred. Items allegedly taken during the robbery include: approximately $80 and a “government” phone.
Off. Sampson and his associates met with the victim and learned that the alleged suspects was a teenager wearing brown pants and a brown/white multi-colored shirt. The suspect was supposedly in the company of 3 other people.
Approximately 10 minutes later, HSPD Officers located a group of people walking on Central Avenue at Greenwood Street that fit the description of the suspect group. Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect in the group, but the suspect allegedly ran away and jumped a fence at Winona Street. Officers briefly lost sight of the suspect. They relocated him laying down on the roof of a Winona Street building. The suspect jumped off the roof and ran again.
Officer Sampson caught up to the suspect behind a house in the 500 Block of Belding street. Officer Sampson shot the suspect in the chest with the taser gun. The suspect allegedly began to pull the tazer hooks out of his chest. Off. Sampson then gave him a contact zap back into compliance and was able to handcuff the 16 year old.
The victim was brought to the arrest location and allegedly identified the person in custody as the person that robbed him at gunpoint.
Officers allegedly discovered a black bag, a lighter and a mason jar containing 1 ounce of marijuana inside a BBQ grill in the immediate area of the arrest. The black bag allegedly contained a 9mm pistol, a digital scale and a 1 gram baggy of marijuana.
With a parent present and both understanding their rights, the suspect told his story. Allegedly according to the suspect, He met with the victim and sold him a tiny amount of marijuana (1 gram = $20). The victim felt he was ripped off, got upset, called the police and said that he was robbed at gunpoint. The suspect had $75 on him at the time of the arrest.
The juvenile suspect is charged with Felony Aggravated Robbery, Felony Possession Of A Controlled Substance, Felony Theft Of Property and Fleeing. No bond was set. The juvenile is/was being held at the Garland County Juvenile Detention Center.
