Hot Springs Police Officer Z. Brown reports that officers were dispatched to the 100 Block Of Garland Avenue in reference to the complaint of a man rummaging through a red pick-up truck.
Officers arrived to find a red pick-up truck with an open door and a man slumped forward in the passenger seat and passed out. The man, Clayton Robert “Keith” Estes, 46, of Raithwood Road in Garland County, appeared to be under the influence of a mind altering substance and it took several attempts to wake him.
Officers detected the odor of intoxicating beverages on his person, he had red, watery, bloodshot eyes, low volume speech and appeared to be out-of-sorts. He was confused with his surroundings and even the vehicle he was in. He told officers that he had been drinking the night before and that the last time he took a drink, it was dark outside. He advised that this truck belonged to his father. After a short time, he changed his story and gestured to an adjacent parked vehicle; indicating that it belonged to his father.
Officers spoke with the complainant. He said that he stepped out onto his porch and saw the man fall out of the open truck door and then get back in the vehicle.
HSPD Officer Plummer asked Mr. Estes if he had any weapons or illegal items on his person. Mr. Estes replied “I don’t think so”. He agreed to let officers search him. During the search, officers located a .38 caliber bullet, cut straws, a glass smoking pipe, a used syringe, a butane lighter and .6 gram of meth in his clothing.
When asked if he had a weapon on him, Mr. Estes said “yes, my mother’s .38 special”. The .38 special revolver was found loaded on the floorboard of the truck where he was seated. The gun contained 1 spent round.
Mr. Estes was transported to the Garland County Detention Center for processing. He is charged with Felony Simultaneous Possession Of Drugs And Firearm, Felony Possession Of A Controlled Substance, Felony Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Criminal Trespass In Vehicle and Public Intoxication and was being held on $0 bond.
