All suspects are presumed innocent until determined guilty in court.
Garland County Sheriff’s CID Investigator Rowe reports that he investigated an injury DWI Crash on Blacksnake Road last night around 9:30PM.
The arrest report says that witnesses report seeing the white Ford Explorer, driven by Richard Lamar Thompson, 54 of Elkhorn Loop in Garland County, traveling West when it crossed the centerline, struck the side of a silver Jeep Liberty, continued West and struck a white Jeep Cherokee head-on. Both vehicles involved in the head-on crash became disabled and came to final rest near the area of impact.
Piney Fire & Rescue Troops arrived quickly and assisted as necessary which included stopping a truck that ran the order to stop which was given by a PFD First Responder stopping traffic at the East end of the crash scene and ignored all the flashing emergency lights in front of him. PFD and other responders were able to get the silver truck stopped before it ran over First Responders working the scene or crashed into vehicles at the scene. That driver was arrested and charged with DWI. Go to that scene CLICK HERE .
LifeNet dispatched at least 1 Ambulance Crew to the scene. At least 1 injured person was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Inv. Rowe made contact with the driver of the white Explorer (Mr. Thompson) and found that he had bloodshot, watery eyes, the odor of intoxicants coming from his person, was being belligerent and went into a lengthy tirade accusing the sheriff’s deputies of “prejudicial activity” that clearly was not, in my opinion, taking place.
The report notes that Mr. Thompson said “I’ve been drinking, take (me) to jail…”. Field sobriety testing was not performed due to medical reasons.
Mr. Thompson was arrested and transported to the Garland County Detention Center for processing. He is charged with DWI and Refusal To Submit To Chemical Testing with a bond amount totaling $1,000.
Traffic flow was closed at this spot for at least 1 hour.
