On 7/28/2016, Hot Springs Police Officer Nunez was patrolling the 2500 Block of Central Avenue.
Officer Nunez saw that a silver Toyota 4Runner traveling North on Central Avenue had a broken taillight. Ofc. Nunez ran the vehicle’s plates and the information returned it as a stolen vehicle out of the Little Rock Police Department. The vehicle made a right into the Waffle House parking lot on Central Avenue, and Ofc. Nunez initiated a traffic stop. Ofc. Nunez made contact with the driver identified as Keithen Jones, 47, of Hot Springs. Mr. Jones was removed from the vehicle and placed into custody without incident.
Mr. Jones was arrested and transported to the Garland County Detention Center. Mr. Jones was charged with Theft by Receiving and he received a Citation for driving on a Suspended Driver’s License. He had a $2,500.00 bond.
Mr. Jones was arrested at the Waffle House parking lot around 3:00 A.M. Thursday morning. Sometime between 3:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M. he was released from jail.
Just a few short hours after Mr. Jones was found to be operating a stolen vehicle and arrested for Theft of Property, an unidentified complainant reported their vehicle stolen from Cathy’s Quilting Square in the 3000 Block of Highway 270 West. This call was handled by the Garland County Sheriff’s Office as Cathy’s Quilting Square is located just outside of the city limits.
The complainant reported to Sheriff’s Deputies that she had left the keys on the floorboard of the vehicle. She stated that she left it unlocked and then went inside of Cathy’s Quilting Square. A witness to the theft reported seeing an unknown black male near the complainant’s vehicle. The witness additionally stated that the unknown black male allegedly made entry into the vehicle and left the parking lot traveling East on Highway 270 West.
The vehicle was located by Garland County Sheriff’s Deputies traveling Eastbound on the bypass, just East of Central Avenue. Deputies attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver allegedly did not stop and continued East where he then proceeded to exit the bypass onto Carpenter Dam Road. The suspect turned South on Carpenter Dam and then West onto Shady Grove, finally coming to a complete stop in the 900 Block of Shady Grove Road.
The suspect, who is identified as Keithen Jones, was taken into custody and transported back to the Garland County Detention Center.
Mr. Jones is charged with Theft of Property, Fleeing and he was, for a second time in one day, issued another Citation for Driving on a Suspended Driver’s License.
